Samsung has just launched the SMT-i8080 phone that offers more than just voice calling. Hooking it up to a nearby Ethernet connection enables the phone to provide 2-way video calls via an integrated video camera and a flip-up LCD display. This works great if you have older folks in the home who have no idea how to run Skype or other video-enabled IM program. The navigation controls even enable the dwindling amount of landline owners to make online purchases from selected stores, stream audio, or even reserve movie tickets. The i8080 phone will be released in Hong Kong first, and Samsung might just bring it other markets in the US, Europe, and the rest of China sometime down the road. Pricing details depend on the service selected.
