Driver alertness monitor developed

Greek Transport Institute IMET at the National Center for Research and Technology Development in Thessaloniki is currently developing a driver alertness monitoring system that will jolt the sleepy driver in order to help prevent accidents. This is made possibly with micro and nano-sensors that measure the different levels of wakefulness via the rate of movement of the eyelids. Integrated sensors in the steering wheel, seat and roof will instead measure the pressure applied by the hands, the course and position of the vehicle relative to the lanes and the surrounding vehicles. I wonder whether such a similar system could be implemented at the workplace. I’m pretty sure that you’ll hear plenty of such alarms going off after lunch hours at any office as the afternoon ‘mist of sleep’ takes over.
