You know all those head-mounted displays that are filling up the market these days? While those are meant for iPod owners to enjoy their movies in private, Vuzix has spared some thought for the visually impaired by developing the LV920 – a cool looking head-mounted display that was designed specifically for individuals with macular degeneration, retinitis pigmentosa and other low vision problems. Results in pre-clinical trials have been promising, and Vuzix aims to ship the LV920 out sometime in this quarter – looks like a pretty tight deadline to me considering there are only six weeks left or so before 2008 rolls around. According to Vuzix, this eyewear will improve vision when reading and boost color perception, but I’ll just take that piece of news with a pinch of salt.
