NEC claims that its Versa S9100 is the toughest notebook from the company to date, with its top cover being specially built to withstand a massive 300 kgs per square foot of pressure, beating out even the Panasonic ToughBook CF-W7. Strangely enough, from boasting such a tough exterior, the keyboard itself is not water resistant – a point that definitely leaves me sore, since you never know when some clumsy person might actually spill his/her cup of coffee all over. Data security-wise, the Versa S9100 fares better than the ToughBook since it comes with a fingerprint biometric sensor and TPM security chip combo. No idea if people will actually rush out to purchase the Versa S9100 since it retails for a hefty US$2,700 – in Singapore, at least. Further digging has revealed that NEC actually priced it a lot less outside of the city state.
