SanDisk Intros pSSD

SanDisk has rolled out its new pSSD, also known as Parallel ATA solid state drive, which does away with the need for a hard drive while offering all the advantages of a solid state drive, albeit in a much smaller form factor that will definitely delight ultra low-cost notebook manufacturers, where among the products include the Asus Eee PC, the Gigabyte M912 and the MSI Wind. These new pSSD modules will come in 4GB, 8GB and 16GB capacities, featuring streaming read and write speeds of 39MB/s and 17MB/s, respectively. They will be able to support both Windows XP and Linux, ensuring as wide an audience as possible. I wonder just how cheap these are compared to regular SSDs – if the price is right, we could actually be just at the beginning of the ultra-low cost notebook market explosion. Time to pick up some Asus stock, perhaps?
