PSP 2 To Ditch UMD

While the PSP 2 from Sony is not yet official, that doesn’t mean it will never come to pass. Interestingly enough, there are rumors of a yet unannounced, much less confirmed, device concerning the removal of the UMD format when released. It will be interesting to see what medium will Sony use this time round – Memory Stick Pro Duos or a special cartridge just like the Nintendo DS? At least taking the UMD drive out will result in a longer battery life, one of the main beef we have with this portable handheld console. There will definitely be a thinner form factor as well, but all these are pure speculation until an official statement is released.
