Video Recording Could Arrive On iPhone

The iPhone might be doing gangbusters in terms of sales all over the world, but that doesn’t mean it is the perfect handset as it still can’t support MMS and basic copy/paste function, although it is heartening to note that Flash support is finally coming their way soon. As for video recording capability, well, users have to resort to jailbreaking their iPhones first before using third party applications like Cycorder as Apple has not done anything on an official capacity to support video recording – at least until this patent documentation from Cupertino that states :-

The device supports a variety of applications, such as one or more of the following: a telephone application, a video conferencing application, an e-mail application, an instant messaging application, a blogging application, a photo management application, a digital camera application, a digital video camera application, a Web browsing application, a digital music player application, and/or a digital video player application.

Digital video camera application, eh? Will we see this in the next firmware update or a next generation iPhone? Or could this just be Apple’s competitive spirit in making sure all their bases are covered? Only time will tell, and hope springs eternal.
