What’s an actroid? It’s a wordplay on “android” and “actress”, which ends up as a robotic actor. From next month onwards, Japanese department store Sogo & Seibu will accept pre-orders for Actroid life-sized, animatronic female robots. These won’t be able to be mobile, as they are limited to sitting still and smiling politely, never looking out of place in a posh place. The main drawback? Only a couple of these will be available for sale at a heart attack-incuding price of $225,000 each.
