Humanoid Robot Focuses On Muscles And Tendons

Robots, will there be no end to them? Next up is Kojiro, a humanoid robot that’s being built by the folks over at the University of Tokyo. What makes Kojiro different from the other robots is that it has a detailed musculoskeletal system built into it to mimic the human body, sporting artificial bones, muscles and tendons to result in a robot that can move in a more organic fashion. Considering that it has about 100 tendon-muscle structures, giving it 60 degrees of freedom, it should be a whole lot more flexible than the other robots. Of course, all the flexibility comes with a price, mainly for the programmers, as Kojiro is not an easy robot to program, but that’s what the programmers are paid for, right? Currently the designers are busy coming up with an iterative learning process, which will get the small motions down pat, so that the robot can manage more complex motions. Tech details aside, does anyone else think that Kojiro looks like a distant cousin to C3PO and Megaman?
