Scientists Create Laser That Could Make It Rain

Weather-controlling machines that the bad guys are so fond of using in superhero movies are inching closer to reality as German scientists have managed to successfully use a laser to create clouds in a controlled lab environment. Experiments even suggest that they may be able to use this method to make it rain in the future, making our current cloud seeding methods seem boring. From the experiment, the team fired very short pulses of infrared laser into a chamber of water-saturated air at -24 °C, after which linear clouds could be seen to form in the laser’s wake.
