Sony Plans To Take On The Microsoft Surface With Its atracTable

Sony is gearing up to take on the Microsoft Surface with a similar offering that is due this June. We’re talking about the atracTable that was first shown at Vision 2009 last year (video after the jump). The company behind it, Atracsys, has sold its technology to Sony, and Sony has plans to industrialize a 35-inch atracTable in order to compete against the Microsoft Surface. Just like Microsoft Surface, the tablet will allow users to place devices like a cell phone or coffee cup on the table for more interaction options. The system developed between Sony ISS and Atracsys claim s to be able to analyze body movements and act on any gesture or change in position, including your body, arm, hand or finger. Will our living rooms all boast smart coffee tables in the next few years?
