Ubuntu Light lets you boot up your netbook in just 7 seconds

Just how fast do you want your netbook to get up and running? Well, for those who are used to the Windows platform, waiting for a couple of minutes ain’t too shabby, but folks who want something a whole lot speedier might want to consider Ubuntu Light – this version lets you boot up your netbook in a mere 7 seconds. It is no lightweight operating system though, being a full-fledged Linux distribution which offers all the relevant tools that come with a desktop operating system, ranging from a web browser to an office suite, communication and security features and compatibility with thousands of third party apps. The hardware used to achieve the 7 second boot time is a Dell Inspiron Mini 10v that runs on an 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor. Even if Ubuntu Light were to be super fast as stated, we don’t think it will overhaul Windows XP as the OS of choice when it comes to netbook manufacturers. What do you think?
