Scottsdale-based chain Harkins Theatres is in the midst of rolling out a campaign which intends to ban texting during movies, which is a good thing. After all, with modern technology resulting in cellphone and smartphone displays getting larger and brighter, that kind of light in an extremely dark room can be quite the distraction, not to mention the clickety-clack sound of the keyboard (for those who do not have a full touchscreen phone). Part of this campaign includes replacing promotions of coming attractions in poster cases with “No Texting During Movie” signs. This nationwide campaign will be over before 2011 rolls around, but it ought to last at least until Christmas.
