Has it been three years already since Google Health was launched? Well, sad to say the Internet search giant has decided that it is no longer viable to continue on with the ailing personal health records service. Apart from that, you will also notice that the Google PowerMeter service will have its plug pulled – where the latter monitors Web-based home energy use. Come January 1, 2012, the Google Health service will expire, although Google is kind enough to offer another full year (that means until January 1, 2013) for you to transfer your data out of the system before it is deleted and sent into the digital graveyard for good.

According to Google, “Now, with a few years of experience, we’ve observed that Google Health is not having the broad impact that we hoped it would. There has been adoption among certain groups of users like tech-savvy patients and their caregivers, and, more recently, fitness and wellness enthusiasts. But we haven’t found a way to translate that limited usage into widespread adoption in the daily health routines of millions of people.”

Apart from that, Google PowerMeter that debuted in 2009 will be shut down when September 16, 2011, rolls around. Guess there are always hits and misses in life, but perhaps we will see different iterations of such offerings in the future?
