Speakers are generally made out of wood due to the inherent acoustic qualities that can be found in them, but that’s not to say that speakers made out of other materials is impossible or will be bad, although sometimes we have to question the decisions certain manufacturers make when it comes to choosing the materials used to build their speaker systems.

Shmuel Linski of the Shenkar College of Engineering and Design has decided to go the unconventional route by building a pair of speakers made out of concrete. Yes, you heard that right; the same material used in the construction of skyscrapers has been used to make a pair of speakers.

Now concrete usually does not give off the best audio quality due to their stiff nature, which in turn tends to distort the sound, which is why manufacturers tend to shy away from them (although this did not seem to deter Taiwanese speakers, 25toGo). To compensate for that, Linski shaped the speakers like a horn which is said to make up for the stiffness, although we’re guessing true audiophiles would still prefer wood over concrete any given day.

Aesthetically speaking, they do look fantastic and would go great with modern furnishings, although weighing at 123 pounds a pair we’re guessing that getting them up the stairs might prove to be a tricky situation.
