Want to be in the thick of action where superlatives are always used as part of the description? Then you would do well to make a bee-line for London in the near future, especially during the summer Olympics, as it seems that ‘Europe’s biggest’ free WiFi zone is about to kick off soon – starting in Westminster. Mobile operator O2 will be the company offering this free Internet service to “millions” of residents and visitors in central London, and it would be interesting to see how the backbone is able to cope with all the data making its way to millions of WiFi enabled mobile devices out there.

Do expect this service to roll out across the different boroughs of Westminster, Kensington and Chelsea later this year, and the entire network will be powered by a system that is installed on street furniture – how creative is that? According to O2, this particular service will not cost the taxpayer, while allowing visitors to this cosmopolitan city to “make the most of what London has to offer”.
