Just yesterday, SRS Labs announced its iWow Universal audio enhancer. As the name itself suggests, this little gadget when plugged to any device with a 3.5mm audio jack should improve the audio quality coming from that device. Given that it plugs into 3.5mm audio jacks, this means that pretty much any media device like a smartphone, tablet, computer, PMP, etc should be compatible with it, unlike SRS Labs’ older iWow offering that was only compatible with iOS devices. So what can you expect from it? According to SRS, they have described the iWow-U as a device that “retrieves audio cues that are buried deep within the original source material to restore the integrity of the original recordings, providing an immersive three-dimensional sound stage with renewed depth and clarity, as well as deeper bass.”

The gadget features an on/off switch and promises up to six hours of battery life that can be recharged via its mini USB port. Depending on where you plug the SRS iWow-U into, it has been tuned for different situations, i.e. headphones, computers, car audio systems, etc. So how much will the iWow-U set you back? Expect to pay $70 for it when it hits the shelves later on in the month. We can’t speak for the audio quality of the iWow-U since we have yet to try it out for ourselves, so you might want to take it for a spin before plonking down your hard earned money.
