Playing games and watching movies for the most part tends to be a very straight-on experience, save for 3D, since the screen is usually right in front of you. While there are setups such as IMAX which offers a wider viewing experience, and eyefinity setups for computer monitors, the folks at MIT Labs have come up with an experiment called the Infinity-by-Nine system. What this does is that it projects images to the left and right of the user while they focus on the screen in front of them. These projected images are blurred and are meant to simulate peripheral vision. The result is supposedly a more immersive viewing experience. Unfortunately there are no plans to commercialize the Infinity-by-Nine system just yet, but according to the researchers, this system is said to be easily adapted for home theatre, gaming and telepresence applications. Sounds like an interesting idea; what do you guys think?
