I am quite sure that many of us who grew up with Lara Croft appearing in Tomb Raider could not forget her ample sized knockers, and to see a heroine like that look so good while narrowly escaping harrowing traps with the gamer himself (or herself) in full control is a surefire way to get those palms nice and sweaty. Well, not much has changed over the years, where well endowed digital characters seem to be hugely popular (that’s a no-brainer there). According to Japanese video game studio Team Ninja, the studio behind the popular “Dead or Alive” franchise, they claim that video gamers are the ones who ask for it.
Director Yohei Shimbori said, “We were getting feedback from the overseas offices to tone down the sexuality – to tone down the sexiness of the game, and of the characters. We actually got a lot of feedback from people who were playing it, saying, ‘We want bigger breasts. Make the characters more like that.’ That was kind of surprising.”
Of course, being the great democratic country that the US is, everyone is entitled to their own viewpoint, and you can be sure that there are certain quarters who oppose such thinking. For instance, Jim Sterling of Destructoid gaming site game had this to say about the director’s comments, “What disturbs me is that for Team Ninja, sexy automatically (and exclusively) equals massive, unrealistically large breasts. They look like creepy sex dolls brought to life.” Which side of the fence are you on?
