Early adopters of Nintendo’s latest gaming console, Wii U, reported that updates were required on day one to fully enjoy the “Wii U experience.” What’s more is that the 8GB model seems to be a bummer due to the necessary installations. Prior to launching the Wii U, Nintendo already made it clear that much of its functionality will not be present until the required updates were downloaded via the Internet. And although the console was warmly accepted by the gaming community when it sold more than 400 thousand units, users cannot help but complain.

Turns out Nintendo President Satoru Iwata is also dissatisfied with the Wii U’s overall performance. In an interview with IGN, Iwata noted that the mandatory updates are a familiar process in today’s standards. However, he regrets the fact that even the basic applications had to be downloaded into the new console. “Personally I think that users should be able to use all the functions of a console video game machine as soon as they open the box,” Iwata said. “So I feel very sorry for the fact that purchasers of Wii U have to experience a network update which takes such a long time, and that there are the services which were not available at the hardware’s launch.”
