aptera-resurrectWe did talk about the Aptera all the way back in 2007 when it was unveiled, and boy did that ride capture the imagination of the masses with its sleek, futuristic looks. Unfortunately for those who had faith in the project, Aptera Motors went out of business a couple of years ago, all without having rolled out a single commercially viable vehicle. Obviously, fans of the Aptera were disappointed, as the world of the Jetsons seem to have taken a step back. Well there is always a silver lining behind every dark cloud, and whispers abound that Zaptera USA could come and resurrect the Aptera project, with the ultimate aim of manufacturing and selling Apteras as soon as 2014.

Zaptera USA happens to be the majority shareholder of China’s Jonway Group, and they intend to mass produce the pure-electric Aptera 2e, a model which is already available in prototype form, and production would occur in China. Well, there is also a hand-built, gas-engined version of the 2e which will be known as the 2g, where it will be constructed right in Southern California itself. It is said that the Aptera 2g might eventually cost up to $55,000, which is approximately $15,000 to $20,000 more than the Chinese Aptera, but I guess there is the perception that Made in USA products would be better.
