How do you like to receive your news when it comes to video games? Well, World of Warcraft recently announced their expansion known as Warlords of Draenor, and if you think that this is going to be the final curtain call, you would be mistaken. There is more World of Warcraft goodness coming your way, if Blizzard’s Mike Morhaime has anything to say about it. In fact, Morhaime has already confirmed that the sixth expansion is already in the works, saying, “We’ve already started working on the expansion after [Warlords of Draenor]. We’ve never done that in the past. We’ve been doing one expansion at a time, sort of a very linear content creation model, and we’ve looked at ways that we can parallelize that. So that while we’re working on this expansion we’re looking at the new one.”
Just a reflection on the number of expansion packs that World of Warcraft has received in the first eight years – it numbers at just four, and Morhaime claims that Blizzard has additional plans to release more expansions in a faster manner down the road so that existing players will remain engaged, and through word of mouth, entice returning players. Morhaime continued, “It’s going to be on us and our development team to continually look at ways to evolve the game and keep it relevant, and look for new ways of maintaining engagement within the game. We view expansions as a huge opportunity to do that.”
