image_316758_460We’re sure that when Epic Games took to the stage at GDC 2014 earlier yesterday, many expected them to perhaps announce a new game, like a new Unreal Tournament for example. If you have been playing FPS games long enough, Unreal Tournament was one of the more played FPS games back in the day, along with titles like Counter-Strike and Half-Life 2.

Unfortunately apart from the release of Unreal Tournament III back in 2007, we have not heard word about a new Unreal Tournament game since and given that it’s been 7 years, safe to say many think that it’s about time that a new game is announced. Sorry to disappoint but it seems that Epic Games will not be releasing a new Unreal Tournament game anytime soon.

This was confirmed by the studio’s founder, Tim Sweeney, who responded to a question from the audience about a possible new Unreal Tournament game. According to Sweeney, “We’re not [planning on] shipping an Unreal Tournament game.”

He later adds, “We have a lot of nostalgia for the game but we’re actually not developing anything in the Unreal game universe at all at the moment.” We’re sure more than a few gamers are disappointed by this announcement. After all titles like Unreal Tournament, Counter-Strike, Quake, Half-Life, and so on were highly popular multiplayer games back in the day.

Perhaps it’s the fact that gamers have since moved on to other types of games that the studio does not see the need or priority to release a new Unreal Tournament game at the moment. Either way if you’re looking forward to a new Unreal Tournament game, we guess you’ll be waiting for quite sometime.
