gmessengerGoogle Messenger is one of the new apps introduced in Android 5.0 Lollipop and naturally it features a Material Design look to it. Now the app used to randomly assign colors to your contacts but the good news for those who want to color code their contacts by themselves, maybe because they want to go for a theme, they can now do so.

Google has recently issued an update to the Messenger app in which it will now allow users to set their own color theme for individual contacts. That way you can potentially set a color theme for family, friends, co-workers, friends from school, people you just met, and so on. It’s not exactly the most groundbreaking update but it’s one that made sense and one that users have been asking for.

To access the colors, users will just need to go to the “People and Options” button from the overflow menu and pick their colors from there. In addition to the new feature, Google has also changed some of the animations in the app which some users were complaining about. It seems that some of the animations caused an unnecessary delay and lag which has since been remedied.

The update should be making its rounds to users but if you haven’t received it yet, fret not as we expect that it will eventually make its way to you.
