img_sony-logo2015 is not starting off on the best of notes for Sony, especially in Canada, where the year has kicked off with all 14 locations of its Sony Stores being closed down in the Great White North. This was originally reported by The Ottawa Citizen, before Sony confirmed the closure of all its Sony Store locations in Canada later on. The business will instead be redirected to Sony’s online store and retail partners, which means there is no more dedicated Sony Stores for you to hang out at to touch, feel, and check out whatever new products that Sony has released.

It was approximately a year back that Sony also made an announcement, citing that 20 Sony Stores would be shut down, resulting in just 11 remaining throughout various locations in the likes of California, Florida, New York and Texas over in the US. The reason behind the store closures? Well, Sony was (and still is, it looks like it) performing some of its cost-cutting efforts, and as a result of all the closure, it will see an overall reduction of 5,000 folks from their monthly payroll, not to mention spinning off its TV business as well as putting up its Vaio PC division for sale. Not the most auspicious of starts to 2015, don’t you think so?
