android-for-work

Google has made no secret of its ambition to ensure that Android rules the enterprise market. At I/O 2014 it first introduced Android for Work and today the company is finally launching its products. This is part of the company’s broader Google for Work initiative, with the sole aim of improving its position in the enterprise.

With this program Google will allow more companies to bring Android devices to the workplace. Work profiles feature default encryption, multi-user support and enhanced SELinux security enforcement.

Multiple profiles ensure that work and personal data remains separate and secured on one single device, though this works only with Android 5.0 Lollipop devices, those that run Ice Cream Sandwich through KitKat will use the Android for Work app instead.

The app will deliver secure email, calendar, contacts, documents, browsing and access to approved work apps. All of this can be managed by the folks in IT.

Google Play for Work will let businesses securely deploy and manage apps on devices of all users that use Android for Work, this simplifies the process for companies who want to distribute apps to employees.

Google has teamed up with different partners to bring secure business apps, consistent method of managing devices in the enterprise as well as to develop Android smartphones and tablets for the program.
