There was a lot of hype surrounding Amazon’s first smartphone but unfortunately the handset failed to live up to expectations. Amazon has tried very hard to sell the Fire Phone and it usually cuts the price down to under $200 coupled with one free year of Prime just to get the ball rolling. Despite the device’s poor performance in the market Amazon continues to support its software and today the Amazon Fire Phone KitKat update has been released which adds some new features to the handset.

The Amazon Fire Phone KitKat update adds support for Bluetooth Low Energy making it compatible with devices that use this technology. Users get the ability to change the wallpaper on the Home screen to a different color or they can just use their own image.

Lock screen notification improvements are also included aside from new keyboard options that bring color emoji and more. The update also lets users convert video clips into lenticular images and set HDR to auto. Video clips can be recorded and automatically converted into a lenticular image to share immediately or use on the lock screen.

Smarter calling options in the Amazon Fire Phone KitKat update allow users to manage up to five people on a conference call and make other tweaks. Messaging and accessibility improvements, bug fixes and user interface tweaks as well as enhanced enterprise features are also present in this update.
