As one of the biggest online retailers in the world Amazon caters to hundreds of millions of people from around the world who use its online marketplace to shop for all kinds of things. Many customers like to read reviews from other customers first before they decide to spend their money on a particular product which is why the reviews system is essential to the platform. The Amazon reviews system is now being overhauled with the updated system being rolled out first for customers in the United States this week.

Amazon has developed a machine-learning platform to improve the reviews system, the platform is going to bring up newer reviews and those that it deems to be most helpful.

A spokeswoman for the company tells CNET that “The system will learn what reviews are most helpful to customers…and it improves over time,” and that it has been designed to make customer reviews more useful.

The new reviews system on Amazon is going to prioritize newer reviews as well as reviews from verified Amazon purchasers, reviews that are voted up for being helpful will be featured prominently as well.

So far Amazon has not said if it plans on rolling out this new reviews system in other countries where its marketplace operates, for now it’s limited to customers in the United States.
