nintendo tviiIf you haven’t heard of Nintendo’s TVii service for the Wii U before, don’t worry about it. As much as we’re sure Nintendo had good intentions when they launched the service, safe to say that it never really took off in a big way, which is why it does not come as a complete surprise to learn that Nintendo will be shutting the service down come 11th of August.

For those who are hearing about the TVii service for the first time, basically what TVii does is that it allows users to find, watch, and interact with TV content via the Wii U GamePad’s controller. The service was a bit limited in its rollout as it only targeted the US, Canada, and Japan, which safe to say did not do much for its adoption.

The company has announced the shutdown on their Miiverse website which reads, “After almost 3 years of finding, watching and engaging with Nintendo TVii, we will be ending the service on August 11, 2015 at 3:00pm PT.  At the same time, we will be closing the Nintendo TVii Miiverse community.”

So if you did enjoy using the service, you’ve got yourself pretty much until the 11th of August to keep enjoying it, after which it will just become a memory for you. The company adds, “We sincerely thank you for all of your engagement within the community and the Nintendo TVii service. We look forward to your contributions within our many other Miiverse communities.”
