Versal, a popular open publishing platform for interactive online courses, today announced the launch of Versal Gadget Market in beta. It provides teachers a new place to discover and share ready-made content for use in custom interactive online courses, homework, lessons and much more. Aside from content submitted by the community the Gadget Market is also going to feature content from education experts and publishers, the first partner is Wolfram Research that’s building a selection of math courses using Wolfram Cloud

In Versal’s course publishing canvas gadgets are building blocks that allow teachers to create new content, build interactive activities and import existing materials. The Gadget Market will let teachers search and discover more content and share their own favorite gadgets.

Basic gadgets include video, images and text. Creators can also pick out content like PDFs, slide shows, 3D models and more from the web and embed it within a course.

There are more than 1,000 free pre-configured interactive exercises in the market already that cover a wide range of educational topics from history timelines to music exercises.

Versal co-founder and CEO Gregor Freund said that “Versal’s course creation platform makes it easy to integrate these customizable course-ready gadgets right into a lesson, resulting in seamless experience with the teacher’s own content.”
