Relations between the United States and Cuba are gradually improving, it’s going to be a long process but things are improving, the United States reopened its embassy in Cuba last month after a few decades and that signalled a strong commitment from both parties to take this newfound friendship forward. US businesses will benefit from this partnership and Verizon claims to be the first among the country’s four major carriers to offer roaming in Cuba.

Verizon users will be able to make calls, text and use data while they’re roaming in the Caribbean’s largest nation, roaming will be offered through the carrier’s Pay-As-You-Go International Travel option.

“By offering international services while traveling in Cuba, we are making it simple and easy for our customers to stay connected wherever and whenever they choose,” says Javier Farfan, vice president of cultural and segment marketing for Verizon.

Setting up the international roaming for Cuba is not that hard. Users will require a World Device and before traveling to Cuba they can opt-in to the Pay-As-You-Go International Travel option.

They will be charged at $2.99 per minute for voice calls, standard international messaging rates will apply and data will cost $2.05 per MB. Sure, it’s pricey, but it’s the price you have to pay if you want to remain connected in Cuba.
