google_mobile_searchWe’re sure more often than not, you have clicked a link in Google’s search results to a website. However upon arriving at that website instead of it displaying the content you want, it redirects you to somewhere else like another page within the website, or maybe to an advertiser’s website.

Sometimes it’s not the website owner’s fault. It could be an ad that is hijacking the search link, but either way it seems that Google isn’t too happy about it. The company has recently issued a warning to companies and websites about attempting to game its search results, especially when it comes to mobile search.

According to Google, “Make sure your mobile users are not sneakily redirected to unrelated content when they click on your site in search results. It can sometimes be a violation of our Google Webmaster Guidelines and something we take manual action on.” Just in case the underlying threat wasn’t clear enough, Google adds, “To ensure quality search results for our users, the Google Search Quality team can take action on such sites, including removal of URLs from our index.”

To prevent your website from being removed from Google’s index, the company has advised website owners to visit their website via their mobile phones from time to time to ensure that no shady redirecting is going on.
