boy-finger-phone

Our devices can make us do stupid things, there have been plenty of incidents which prove that for some people their devices hold more importance, like the man who sold his daughter to buy an iPhone or the woman who jumped into a freezing lake to retrieve her iPhone. The latest incident is a bit different though as it involves an 11-year-old boy from Suzhou, China who hacked off his finger after his dad scolded him for being glued to his phone all the time.

According to reports from China, the child was frustrated with his father who was constantly scolding him for his excessive smartphone use. The child’s parents didn’t like that he was glued to his phone ever since he got up on that fateful day and they believed he was setting a bad example for his 6-year-old brother.

The child’s mother complained to his father who scolded his son. The argument heated up and in a fit of anger, the child grabbed a knife and hacked off his left index finger. The injured child and his severed finger were rushed to the hospital where doctors reattached the finger, but it will take at least a week before they can be certain that the operation was a success.

The parents were understandably horrified by this as they didn’t expect their child to react in this manner. They may have more to worry about now than their son’s excessive phone use. One could say that the young one isn’t mature enough to understand that causing self-harm because you’re not being allowed to be glued to the phone all the time is just wrong, perhaps this unfortunate incident is going to make him come to terms with this reality.
