verizon-logo-stone-wallWord is going around on the grapevine that Verizon is all set to introduce its next-gen TV service some time later this year, where such an internet-based delivery system might eventually phase out FiOS in due time. This would translate to a rather huge overhaul of one of their main consumer offerings, and this next generation IP TV service remain relatively unknown in terms of details and offerings, but we would not dare to bet against the introduction of a new set-top box.

After all, it was just earlier this week that Verizon filed FCC documents for a new box which might just come with the OnCue internet video technology that the company managed to obtain from Intel slightly more than a couple of years back.

Whispers also have it that this new box will come with a whole new interface which will merge paid TV services and internet video options such as Netflix, and it is also very possible that the new Verizon service will be able to introduce online video programming. Such a potent combination of live paid TV services and popular streaming options would make it a force to be reckoned with, that is for sure! All in all, we will just have to sit tight and wait for new developments that make things all the more concrete in nature in time to come.
