bitcoin creatorFor the longest time ever, no one really knew who created bitcoin, the popular cryptocurrency that more websites and services are starting to accept as payment these days. However there was always a name attached to bitcoin and that was “Satoshi Nakamoto”, leading some to naturally assume that bitcoin’s creator is Japanese.

However that is no longer the case. Australian tech entrepreneur Craig Wright has confirmed to the BBC that he is indeed the creator of bitcoin, and has provided technical proof to support his claim. It seems that Wright is not alone as prominent members of the bitcoin community have also corroborated Wright’s claim.

That being said, Wright also submitted his claim to both The Economist and GQ, although The Economist was a bit skeptical about his claims. According to them, “Our conclusion is that Mr Wright could well be Mr Nakamoto, but that important questions remain. Indeed, it may never be possible to establish beyond reasonable doubt who really created bitcoin.”

We suppose that’s fair, but for now it looks like we finally have a face to associate with the currency. As to why that’s important, it is because as the creator, Wright would naturally be sitting on a pile of bitcoin and would have the power to influence its price and sway over future bitcoin protocol, so we’re guessing have some kind of accountability would be good.
