MMORPGs don’t last forever, meaning that at some point in time they will have to shut down as the developers/publishers decide that supporting the game is no longer financially feasible. So what happens when an MMORPG shuts down? The folks at Daybreak decided to that wanted to give their 13-year old game, PlanetSide, an epic send-off and this is what they did.

As you can see in the video above, Daybreak decided that a great way to end the game would be to create an apocalyptic moment where meteors just rained down on the world, essentially signalling its destruction and wiping it from existence. Players from around the world old and new also gathered together to bid the game a final goodbye.

According to Daybreak back then as to why they had to shut the game down, “PlanetSide 1 has a very important history with Daybreak Games and a special place in the hearts of those who work on its successor. While we have run the game for free since 2014, due to evolving business needs and technical requirements it has become necessary to conclude this service.”

We have to say that it was a pretty clever idea what they did, not to mention epic as well. However fans of the franchise need not fret as the game is survived by its free-to-play successor, PlanetSide 2.
