verizon-logo-stone-wallThe thing with unlimited data plans is that they’re meant to provide ease of mind, meaning that you won’t have to worry about running out of data and face overages or slowed down speeds. It doesn’t mean that you should tether your phone to your computer and download gigabytes (or even terabytes) worth of data just because it is unlimited.

However there are some customers who do abuse the system, and apparently Verizon will no longer abide by this. According to a report from Droid-Life, they have heard from their sources that Verizon could be getting ready to implement a plan to deal with these users. Basically if Verizon deems that your account uses “an extraordinary amount of data” every month, Verizon could very well disconnect your line.

Starting from the 21st of July, the carrier is expected to begin notifying these users via mailer and bill messages of their intentions, and that they will offer these customers a variety of options if they choose to remain with Verizon. One of those options includes being moved to a tiered plan and they will be given until the end of August to do so, failing which their lines will be disconnected.

At the moment it is unclear as to what Verizon constitutes as an “extraordinary amount of data”, so if you are on Verizon’s unlimited data plans, maybe you’ll want to keep an eye out for the messages.
