Over in Japan, they have a particular confectionery called Pocky which is made by a company called Glico. They sell them outside of Japan as well and some of you guys might have even consumed them, but in case you need your memory jogged, Pocky are these little biscuit sticks coated in chocolate.

Now sweets and toys somehow go hand-in-hand, and sometimes companies like to bundle toys with their sweets (read Kinder Surprise), and it looks like Glico has done the same, except that instead of a toy, they have provided kids with an education tool that aims to teach them how to start coding.

Dubbed Glicode, this is an app that kids can download onto their phones/tablets. From there they will control a character but in order for your character to get to where you want it to, you’ll have to input instructions which can be done by placing the candy in a specific order, assuming they haven’t eaten all of it by then.

It’s an interesting idea, not to mention it sounds fun and quite a delicious way to pick up some new skills as well. We’re not sure if there are any plans to localize it for the US market, but given that this isn’t exactly a new idea, there are plenty of alternatives out there for parents who might be interested.
