Google announced earlier this year that it was going to release a completely revamped version of Google Sites and today it has followed through on that promise. It has been testing the new version of Sites with a select group of users through an Early Adopter program and now it thinks that the product is ready for everyone.

The Sites product from Google enables users to build working team and project sites even if they are unable to write a single line of code, HTML or otherwise. It has revamped Sites now that web technologies have rapidly advanced over the past few years.

The revamped Google Sites tout new and improved features such as the ability to track site performance with Google Analytics and enhanced customization options. It’s easier than ever now to create a site, add links, text, images, and other content.

It’s also built to work with Google apps so that users can easily insert content from the Google tools they use the most, such as Google Maps or Google Drive. Collaborating on sites is now possible as well since the new Sites uses the same technology as Google Docs to enable multiple users to work on a site simultaneously.

G Suite customers who have Google Sites enabled can now start building new Sites. It appears that old Sites, now called classic Sites, can’t be ported to the new design though Google says that customers can continue using classic Sites if they want to.

Update: Google has told Ubergizmo that in 2017 it will provide and recommend options to migrate existing classic Sites to the new Sites. In early 2018, Google will have more information about a gradual process to move everyone to the new Sites and shut down classic Sites. No firm shut down date has been set yet.
