If you still like using camcorders to capture video even though everyone is using smartphones for the same purpose now, you might want to check out JVC’s new line of camcorders. JVC today announced two rugged, weatherproof camcorders that can float. JVC’s new Everio R camcorders promise all-weather features, five hour battery life, powerful optical zoom, and other advanced features that will enable users to “create unique videos that can’t easily be captured with a smartphones,” so says the company.

JVC’s GZ-R550 and GZ-R440 camcorders are built using the company’s Quad-Proof structure. They are water resistant to a depth of 5 meters and can withstand drops from 1.5 meters. They are freeze-proof down to -10°C. They do all this while being able to float.

The camcorders have an internal high-capacity battery and are compatible with third-party portable batteries as well, the kind that is used for charging smartphones on the go.

Inside the camcorders, there’s a new KONICA MINOLTA HD LENS with a 40x optical zoom and 60x dynamic zoom coupled with a 2.5 megapixel back-illuminated CMOS image sensor. JVC’s FALCONBRID image processing engine is onboard as well.

The Everio R GZ-R550 features AVCHD recording, built-in Auto Illumi. Light and 32GB of internal storage. Available in matte black, is going to go on sale in May for $559. The GZ-R440 has 4GB of internal storage and will be sold in matte black and orange colors also in May for $399.95.
