As social media has exponentially grown over the past few years, it has given people countless opportunities to tap into this growth and try to make a career out of it. We now see platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Youtube, to name a few, being used to run small businesses and create personal brands. It’s very lucrative but sometimes the pursuit of online fame can prove to be a near-death experience.

Chinese health vlogger Zhang accidentally poisoned herself while live streaming. She had to be rushed to the hospital where he stomach was pumped to save her life.

She was livestreaming herself eating what appeared to be a giant leaf of aloe vera. The plant is very beneficial and while I’m no aloe vera expert, I think there are better ways of obtaining its benefits than munching on the plant itself.

What she didn’t know was that the plant she was chewing wasn’t aloe vera but Agave Americana which looks similar to aloe vera but is actually very poisonous. She kept chewing on the plant and complained about its bitter taste for a while.

She soon started to feel very bad and turned the livestream off. She was later rushed to the hospital when she started breaking out in blisters. Zhang is said to be in stable condition now.

This is yet another lesson that your life is not the price to pay for internet fame, even if shooting your boyfriend with a gun seems like a good play to get views on your videos.
