One of the problems customers faced last year when trying to get their hands on the NES Classic is that they were constantly out of stock. This is apparently due to Nintendo struggling to keep up with demand, but that’s a problem that Nintendo plans to avoid with the SNES Classic that will be launched this year.
In fact according to a tweet by Wario64 (via US Gamer), a check on Brickseek has discovered that as far as the SNES Classic is concerned, it seems that stores appear to be carrying more stock this year compared to last year’s NES Classic on launch day. There are some stores that could have as many as 96 units available at launch, while others range from 16, 42, or 30, and so on.
Like we said this is considerably more than the NES Classic last year in which some retailers apparently only received 6 units, which might explain why the console was notoriously difficult to get ahold of. Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime was also recently quoted as saying that they expect to have more units available for the SNES Classic, and that customers should avoid paying a premium from third-party websites that are reselling them.
The good news is that even if you were to miss out on getting one this year, Nintendo has confirmed that production of the console is expected to run through 2018, so you can always try your luck then. The NES Classic is also expected to make a return next year, so if you missed out last year then you’ll want to keep your eyes peeled for its re-release next year.
