Amazon’s Prime Pantry service used to be priced at $5.99 per order. This was a flat fee for every order you make and was applicable even for Prime members. Now we speak in the past tense because Amazon has made some changes to its Prime Pantry program where instead of a flat per-order fee, Amazon has transitioned it to a monthly subscription service.

According to the new pricing, it will cost customers $4.99 a month which is cheaper than the flat fee, but if you don’t take advantage of it every month, that’s money wasted. With this subscription, customers will be unlimited free shipping on any order above $40. This means that in addition to you paying for your Prime membership, you will now have to pay an extra $4.99 a month.

However the good news is that if you’d rather not subscribe to Prime Pantry’s new subscription service, not to worry as Amazon will continue to offer flat shipping rates. The bad news is that the price of that flat shipping rate has been increased from $5.99 per order to $7.99 for orders that don’t meet the $40 minimum, which according to Amazon is also applicable to Prime Pantry members that spend below $40 per order.

Given that Prime Pantry was designed to be used to shop for daily essentials, it’s hard not to imagine that most customers will end up subscribing at $4.99 a month, which makes it worth it if you order more than once a month.
