Devil May Cry fans are unquestionably waiting for the next title in the franchise to arrive. It’s a direct sequel so there’s understandably a lot of excitement and hype for it. It appears that Capcom will now allow players to upgrade characters by spending real money. Players will be able to buy “Red Orbs” to upgrade their characters faster than they would have by just grinding through the game.

GameSpot has discovered that Devil May Cry 5 character upgrades will be possible if players spend real money to acquire more orbs. They can do this if they want to “expedite the upgrade process and beef up Dante earlier than usual.”

Game Director Hideaki Itsuno’s response to Capcom allowing microtransactions in the game acknowledges that this is being provided as an option to players. “If they want to save time and just want to get all the stuff at once, those people can do that. But on the other hand I don’t feel you have to get all the moves. You should be able to play it the way you want to play it,” he said.

It’s understandable that this single-player allows players to upgrade characters by spending money since there’s no competitive multiplayer mode so there’s no way for them to gain an advantage over other players if they’re willing to spend money. However, it may push players who are perhaps not that skilled at the game to upgrade their characters quickly by buying the orbs.
