Canon Inc. is a Japanese multinational company that specializes in manufacturing optical products such as digital cameras, computer printers, camcorders, photocopiers, and medical equipment. Based in Tokyo, Japan, the company was founded in 1937 by Takeshi Mitarai, Goro Yoshida, Saburo Uchid, and Takeo Maeda. Canon Inc. succeeded Precision Optical Instruments Laboratory. The company developed Japan’s first-ever 35mm camera called Kwanon. Eventually the name of the company was changed to Canon in 1947.
