Some of us love grocery shopping, while others are of the opposite persuasion. For those who fall under the latter category, would a robotic assistant at the grocer’s persuade you to have a liking for shipping? This will be an advanced version of the Robovie-II android developed by Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute International (ATR), where the user will inform the robot’s on-screen avatar of the items they need before heading out to the supermarket using a special mobile device. When you make your way there, sensors will automatically detect the said mobile device, with a waiting robot downloading relevant data while greeting you by name, followed up with, “Let’s start shopping.” The robot will accompany you to the right aisle, carrying your shopping basket while sending reminders for items you have missed.
