Samsung is now shipping the Spinpoint MT2, a 2.5-inch 1TB (or 750GB) internal hard drive designed for mobile applications and set top boxes (DVRs, Digital TVs…). The drive runs at only 5400 rpm, but it’s not uncommon for such high-capacity drives. It would work if you absolutely need space, but for a laptop, I would rather use a 7200rpm 500GB disk. That said, it should be fast enough for an HD digital video recorder (DVR) and I bet that it is a lot quieter than a 3.5″ disk. We’re not sure what the price is going to be, but you should see it soon on e-commerce websites.
