Sony announces new music and video download service

As expected, Sony decided to attempt to rain on Apple’s parade with the announcement of a new music and video download service at the IFA technology fair in Berlin. This new cloud-based service will be made available to PlayStation 3 consoles, Bravia TVs, Blu-Ray players and Sony’s range of personal computers. While movies will be on offer at first, music will be included before the year is over. Using Sony’s online service platform known as Qriocity that has delivered video-on-demand in the US since April 2010, it will now arrive in Europe as well. As for the Music Unlimited service, that will happen at the end of the year. Pricing details are expected to be announced at a later date.
