According to divorce attorneys surveyed by the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML), Facebook has become the main source of evidence in divorce cases, while other say that Facebook itself might be causing trouble in relationships. Why? Legal professionals have noticed the pattern: one spouse reconnects with a former schoolmate, and one thing can lead to another… But is Facebook really a “marriage-wrecker”, or is it merely a tool that facilitates contact, like cellphones? The latter seems closer to reality.
What is certain is that Facebook is a gold mine for divorce attorneys who can find text or photographic evidence, not only about a possible infidelity, but also about drug abuse, which can be a case-breaker for a child custody case. But for all this new evidence, one thing has remained unchanged: the divorce rate. [via Guardian]
