According to WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, he talked about social networking in an interview with Russia Today, lambasting Facebook as “the most appalling spy machine that has ever been invented.” Assange claims that Facebook is a giant database of names and records concerning people, where it was maintained voluntarily by users albeit being developed for US intelligence to take advantage of. One thing’s for sure, Osama bin Laden did not have a Facebook account where he was based in Pakistan, since that walled up fortress lacked an Internet connection or phone.

Assange claims that, “everyone should understand that when they add their friends to Facebook, they are doing free work for United States intelligence agencies, and building this database for them.”

Not only that, US intelligence agencies already have access to Facebook’s records, making it dangerous enough already. What do you think of the whole shebang? Would it let you be more careful with your posts from now on?
